Split Horn Bonnet
13 3/4" h x 6 ¼" d x 10" w
Ed. 1/15 - 2013 Bronze
Many tribes throughout the Western plains created the split horn bonnet for their headdress. It came in many forms from the ermine skin bonnet, worn in the sculpture, to the feathered bonnets. This bonnet was only worn by the bravest of warriors. Many of the tribes had Split Horn Bonnet Societies which consisted of the fiercest warriors. The horns were made from boiling buffalo horns until they were soft and easily split and shaped.
