"Osage Split Horn Bonnet"
9 ½" H x 6" W x 8" D
ED-8 2016 Bronze
Most split horn bonnets are made of eagle feathers, ermine skins or buffalo hides, depending on the region or tribal society. This bonnet is a very unusually constructed bonnet; it's made of red dyed horse hair and cattle horns. It's swept back long horns gives it an air of strength and aloofness. It is a rare bonnet and to my knowledge was mostly worn by the Osage warriors.
