After the Native Americans were forced on to the reservations, many would adapt to the white man ways.  Many Native American tribes were amazing horsemen, such as the Comanche from the New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma area. The Comanche were some of the greatest horsemen in history and they were the best at breaking, training and breeding horses.  They also could ride extremely well and fight from the back of a horse in full gallop. These skills transferred easily to the hard life of the American cowboy.  Some accounts say that up to 40 to 50 percent of the cowboys of the West were made up of Native Americans, Mexicans and African Americans.
